The Department of Computer Science at Roanoke College offers a Bachelor of Science degree and a minor in Computer Science. Courses taught in the department span a variety of areas of computer science including Programming Languages, Compiler Construction, Theory of Computation, Analysis of Algorithms, Simulation, Operating Systems, and Database Systems. Some other areas of computer science, e.g., Parallel Processing and Graphics, are taught as independent study projects.

The departmental faculty regularly work with students on research projects, often leading to publications and presentations at conferences.

All the system administration, for maintaining the computer systems used in computer science courses, is done by students giving them invaluable hands-on experience in this area.
