Trigonometry

Your next assignment will make extensive use of the trigonometric functions in the math module. We covered these in CPSC 120, but it never hurts to have a reminder of how these functions work.


Right Triangle Rules

The common mnemonic device for remembering the right triangle rules is SOHCAHTOA, These define the following rules:

Which can be rearranged using the inverse trig functions to find theta:

which can be accessed using the \(asin, acos, \mbox{and } atan\) functions.

These equations can be used not only to find the sine, cosine, and tangent of an angle, but also allows for the computation of sides of the triangle as well, rearranging the equations slightly.


Use the above equations to solve for \(x\) in the following triangles.
