More problem solving logic puzzles for today. This is a slightly different one for today. This one is more about the logical thinking behind the statements below.
Details
A logic grid puzzle consists of a scenario where you are trying to match some number of disjoint sets based off of a set of logical statements. To accomplish this, you will fill in a grid built from these disjoint sets. For any given block of the grid, each row and each column can only have one positive answer (which we typically represent with an 'o'). Your goal is to fill out the grid, such that each block has one 'o' in each row and column. Consider the following Scenario:
The annual Star Trek convention was in town and as a result, aliens and Trekkies overran the town. Five friends came dressed up as aliens from different planets which Star Fleet had made contact with over the years. Each planet orbited a different star, and had a different size population. From the clues given, determine the name of the planet, the year Star Fleet made contact, the star the planet orbits, and the size of the population.
- The population of Kappa is larger than that of the planet orbiting Polaris.
- The planet orbiting Polaris made contact earlier than Kappa.
- Wezen is the star whose planet, which is not named Rho, has a population of 9.5 million.
- Zeta is the planet around Albati
- Albati was not the last one to make contact.
- The Mu contact took place in 2161.
- Contact was made in 2217 with Betelgeuse system.
- Betelgeuse's population was smaller than the planet contacted in 2202.
- The largest population is on Pi
- Pi was contacted immediately after the planet with the smallest population.
- 12 million was the population of the planet contacted immediatly after the planet in the Electra system.
